A different side of Rwanda
Akagera gives Rwanda a classic savannah safari dimension. The landscape changes from rolling grasslands and woodland to wetlands and lakes, creating varied habitats and attractive photography throughout the day.
Wildlife sightings can include elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, antelope species, hippos, crocodiles and predators. Sightings are never guaranteed, which is part of the excitement of a real wildlife safari.
Game drives
Morning and full-day game drives allow time to explore different habitats. A private vehicle gives flexibility to pause for sightings, photography and viewpoints. Depending on your itinerary, an evening or night activity may also be considered where available and appropriate.
Boat experiences
A boat trip on Lake Ihema adds a water-based perspective, with opportunities to see hippos, crocodiles, water birds and animals approaching the shoreline. It pairs especially well with a game drive rather than replacing it.
How many nights?
A day trip from Kigali is possible for travelers with limited time, but an overnight stay creates a better safari rhythm. Two nights can allow more relaxed game viewing and a boat experience without turning the visit into a race against the clock.
