A rainforest journey
Nyungwe is one of Rwanda’s most important forest destinations and offers a completely different environment from the savannah of Akagera. Misty ridges, tall trees, ferns, birds and primates make it ideal for travelers who enjoy walking and natural history.
The park can be combined with chimpanzee trekking, canopy experiences and selected forest hikes, depending on availability, weather and the traveler’s interests.
What to include
- Chimpanzee trekking.
- Canopy and forest experiences.
- Birding and primate observation.
- Tea landscapes and local stops around the park.
- Scenic onward travel toward Lake Kivu or Huye.
Planning the route
Nyungwe activities often start early, so staying close to the relevant activity area can make a major difference. We build transfer times around the next morning’s activity rather than simply choosing the shortest-looking map route.
