A landscape shaped by volcanoes
Volcanoes National Park lies in Rwanda’s northwestern highlands and forms part of the wider Virunga conservation landscape. The region is defined by steep green slopes, bamboo forest, mist, volcanic soils and a chain of impressive peaks.
Most visitors come for gorilla trekking, yet the destination deserves more than a rushed overnight stop. Musanze and the park area can support several days of wildlife, nature and cultural experiences.

How long to stay
Two nights can work for one major trek, but three nights or more gives a calmer rhythm and space for a second activity. We normally avoid building a long transfer immediately before an important early-morning trek whenever possible.
