A fast-moving primate experience
Chimpanzee trekking can feel very different from gorilla trekking. Chimpanzees may travel through the canopy, vocalize from a distance and move through forest quickly. The search itself is part of the adventure.
In Rwanda, chimpanzee experiences are associated with Nyungwe’s forest system. Uganda can also offer excellent chimpanzee trekking, making this activity easy to include in a multi-country primate safari.
Preparation
- Wear sturdy walking shoes and long clothing.
- Carry rain protection and drinking water.
- Keep camera gear light enough to move comfortably.
- Follow guide instructions closely and respect wildlife distance rules.
Combine with other forest experiences
A balanced itinerary can pair chimpanzee trekking with canopy or nature walks, tea landscapes, birding and a slower afternoon. This helps avoid scheduling several physically demanding activities back-to-back.
